CONSOLE SYSTEM: GAMECUBE

COMPANY: NINTENDO/SEGA (GASP!)

STATUS: (NOT YET COMPLETED)

APPROX TIME: (ABOUT 50 HOURS)

The next F-ZERO comes to the Gamecube! Is it what you expect out of an F-ZERO game? Read below! F-ZERO is by far one of the most challenging racing games I have ever played. In one word: HARD. This game will keep you on your toes til the very end. F-ZERO has always been known to be an extremely difficult (yet not cheaply) type of game. F-ZERO originally for the SNES, F-ZERO X for the 64, and F-ZERO Max Velocity for GBA. All three of these games offered an extreme fun, challenge, and speed.

However, in the fourth installment it seems that some of these elements were taken out. It is amazing, one might note, that SEGA helped with this major game that Nintendo made. And after playing many many hours of this game, it feels that SEGA put more work into it than Nintendo did. SEGA, difficulty wise, has been known to make the CPU very cheap in their own way. While playing the easier difficulties, the CPU is a pushover and easily defeated.

However, as you progress to the higher difficulties, the computer gets more aggressive and more cheap. By cheap I mean by unlimited booster, and the tendency to constantly bump you in the ass and fall off the track. This can prove extremely frustrating to the player and can cost one the gold cup to the silver cup. The game offers 3 modes of difficulty but one more can be unlocked by completing the hardest one.

F-ZERO offers many different modes of gameplay. PRACTICE is a great way to warm up on tracks that you have difficult with. Here you can race by yourself to get to know the tracks, or play against the cars (any number you wish) and how hard you want them to be. This is a great practice when you are ready to take on the grand prix. F-ZERO also offers a story mode. This is interesting, considering this is an F-ZERO game. In story mode, you play as only Falcon. While not one of the best cars in the game, he is extremely balance (good or bad depending what kind of driver you are).

Since I have beliefs this is more of a SEGA game, control must be perfect when you do these courses. One fuck up, and its all gone. And F-ZERO GX doesn't hesitate that if you screwed up you lose. This again, can be very frustrating to the player. F-ZERO has a lot of features to unlock. Some of these tasks are done by finishing grand prix on different difficulties or completing story mode in the higher levels of difficulty.

Once unlocked, they can be purchased by using tickets in the FZERO shop. These can be used to buy new machines, to custom parts or new story chapters. F-ZERO AX, which is the arcade version of this game, can help you unlock stuff that is nearly impossible to do alone in GX. Taking your memory card and completing extremely well at the arcade will save your data to your card. Importing that will unlock stuff in F-ZERO GX. Sometimes the word "BULLSHIT" you'll scream when you play this game, considering what the computer might do to you. However, if your looking for a very challenging racing game, yet frustrating sometimes, check out F-ZERO GX. Because of this high tense difficulty, players need to memorize the track they are playing. Otherwise you might make a fatal mistake or the computer will race by you fast, and it is very difficult to catch back up. All in all, if you are looking for a high speed and high replay value game....You'll get your money's worth!

Graphics: 1.000/1.000: (Wonderful graphics, no frame dropping. Speed is the key!)

Sound: 1.000/1.000: (All the tunes seem to live up to being an FZERO game)

Storyline: 0.700/1.000: (Pretty basic for a racing game. The FMV's are nice to look at though)

Control: 0.700/1.000: (Control can be very edgy. While it is responsive, I think it's a bit too responsive. It's easy to make a fatal mistake that will cost you the race, even if you are not attempting to do.)

Gameplay: 0.500/1.000: (This is a great racing game and offers a lot to discover. However, the computer can get insanely cheap to the point that it's unfair. But this game DOES give its sense of accomplishment.)
