Console System: Playstation 2
Company: Capcom
Status: Completed! (and I'm spent!)
Approx Time: About 12 hours (About 24 total if play HARD mode)
I've played many action hardcore games in the past. Many have offered extreme difficulty and lots of fun. Devil May Cry (why I haven't reviewed it til now), is far by one of the best action games I have ever played. Those who haven't played this game yet and are looking for a very HARD action game...you need to play this game.
Devil May Cry prolly has three down points, the camera angles (they're not too bad), the story, and game time. Devil May Cry isn't a very long game and for most hardcore action buffs, should take you no longer than 15 hours to complete on NORMAL mode. There's an EASY AUTOMATIC mode, but that makes this game rather pointless to play. Devil May Cry may not be a long game but every second you play this game, you'll enjoy every minute of it!

The story isn't very detailed but it is still well defined. You are Dante, a half human/half demon who battles evil. Your father fought an awesome demon many years ago. Now this demon is back to threaten the world. A woman named Trish locates your headquarters and asks you to aid her to defeat this demon. While she doesn't really directly aid you, she offers advice once in a while. Dante's past and story integrates with the island you visit to find this evil demon. While the game lacks a full exploration, you are assigned missions. The objective of each this missions is pretty simple. However, they are not easy to accomplish. Over all I think the game has 23 missions. Some are long, some are short. A few are actually "easy" to complete.

Most battle's you'll fight are very hard. Even on the normal, you'll break a sweat. DMC offers that feeling of accomplishment after you go through a very tough battle. I felt the need to double save just to make sure :). The saying "yes I did that" will pop in a lot. Make no mistake, DMC is not for the standard action player. Dante himself has many abilities all which are used and utilized in the game. Dante starts off with dual hand guns and a sword. While I find it odd he has unlimited ammo, it is still hard to defeat your foes. Later on Dante acquires new powers and new weapons.

Dante has something called "Devil Trigger Mode". This mode allows Dante to change into a demon and unleash awesome damage to your foes. Devil Trigger is accomplished by landing hits and taking damage as well. The meter is filled up enough, you can activated DTM.
Control wise is very fluid and well done. You'll feel yourself landing hits left and right, dodging ducking, and all that has to offer in an action game. Despite the control is fluid and great, it can tend to wear down a person. This was the first action game that actually crapped my hand up. Not because of the control, but because of the extreme difficulty. This game is not "cheezy" hard. It's just HARD. If you think NORMAL is insane, play HARD, and if your manage to get through that, the game unlocks a DANTE MUST DIE mode. Which I cannot beat :(.

Graphically the game is very gothic and dark. It gives that resident evil feeling (which originally that's what it was going to be). Sound is awesome. It gives that hard core action feeling. This game is nearly a "perfect" game in my scoring category. The camera angles CAN be annoying but are manageable still and only in certain areas. If this game was slightly longer and had a bit more better storyline....this game would be the first I deemed "perfect" 5.0! If you are looking for an extremely hard (but fair) action game, look no further than Devil May Cry!!
