Console System: Game Boy Advance
Company: Konami
Status: (Completed)
Approx Time: (About 15 hours or so)
One thing that is admirable about the game boy advance, is the number of games that can be made for this console. While I own the other two of the series for this console, the first one is far by the best thus far. Circle of the Moon is a great Vania game! Everything about this game is great. Bosses are extremely hard (which is great seeing this is a Vania game) but not cheap bosses. Unlike the other two vanias, there are no shops in this game. You have to kill enemies to get potions, magic recovery items and magic cards. The drop rate can be from common to very rare. You'll find yourself in one area for quiet awhile getting items. While this is tedious, it will be worth your wild.

This vania has rpg elements as well. As you kill your foes off, you'll get a level up. This is your stats, hp, mp, and max hearts you can hold. Additionally, there are three special powerups hidden throughout the castle. One for hp, one for mp, and one for your hearts. Most of these are easy to find and while some are hidden. COTM uses the same tactics as the other vanias use. You can use your trusty whip to hit candles, grab items like that wonderful boomerang, to the chopping throwing axe. These items uses hearts.

Nathan (the main character) can also use magic. Magic is based off combination of cards that have many different properties. By mixing different powers, Nathan can unleash some deadly attacks. He also increase his defense, speed, and luck stats with these cards. Finding cards are very hard and enemies have to be beaten several times to get one.

Perhaps the hardest thing to deal with is the control. It can be very stiff and sensitive. It is easy to throw your axe or boomerang while jumping/attacking. Hard practice is what it takes. All in all. COTM is a great game, and any vania fan should not pass this up. Stay tuned for a review of the other two vanias soon!

Graphics: 1.000/1.000: (For a first attempt, the game gives a look for a castlevania game)

Sound: 1.000/1.000: (Perfect mix of vania music. Those who know the series will hear remixes of old vanias. These remixes are done well!)

Storyline: 1.000/1.000: (Not detailed, but this is a vania game. Its not expected. Kill Dracula. Nuff said)

Control: 0.700/1.000: (This is prolly the weak part of vania. Great practice is what is needed, but its still hard)

Gameplay 0.900/1.000: ( Be wary entering some areas, if you have trouble in it, you should backtrack and find that special item. Great gameplay)

Totals: 4.600/5.000
