CONSOLE SYSTEM: PLAYSTATION1

COMPANY: KONAMI

STATUS: COMPLETED THIS GAME

APPROX TIME: 60 HOURS

Those who have played 'Time Stalker' for the Dreamcast system will somewhat understand how Azure Dreams plays and acts. The story resolves around a young boy who wants to become a treasure hunter like his father. When the boy was young, his father mysteriously gets killed in the monster tower (where you hunt for treasures and eggs). When the boy (you) becomes of age, he is allowed to enter the tower for search for treasure and monster eggs to hatch and train. Gameplay follows a Zelda like overview as you explore each floor of the tower. The objective of the game is simple, to get to the top of tower and find out what happened to your father. Doing this is no easy task.

One of the main aspects of the game I liked was you can find monster eggs, hatch the, and tame them (your a monster tamer). There are over 50 different monsters to find and each has their own strengths and weaknesses. One nice touch to the game is that you can fuse monsters. So if one monster is has low defense, you can fuse it with another monster you find that has a high defense. Eventually I found two monsters that I liked and kept them and finished the game when they hit about the 35th level.

This is an action/Turn based RPG, so each monster/player takes turns attacking. One down point I didn't like (but it made sense because if it wasn't it I'd beat the game much quicker) is that the main character loses his levels when he re-enters the tower, however your monsters do not. Also each floor is randomly generated, adding more challenge and gameplay to the game. As you find money, eggs, and treasure, you can use your funds to upgrade the town surrounding the tower. Further in the game you can get 7 different chicks to fall in love with you. Strange for most games. Overall Azure Dreams is a good RPG, although Konami doesn't make too many, it is interesting to see a company try to take a jab at the genre.
